Maryland Heights Overlook Guided Hike
This guided hiking tour with River and
Trail Outfitters provides an opportunity for education while you walk. Your
walking tour starts on Harper's Ferry Road where rail lines, rivers, and trails
meet. The Appalachian Trail is discussed and railroad bridge ruins provide an
introduction to the rich transportation history of the area. The climb to the
Heights follows a worn military road, leftover from the Civil War, that winds
its way up the mountain and turns onto a wooded path leading down to the
cliffs. The cliffs offer spectacular views of the confluence of the Shenandoah
and Potomac Rivers and an aerial view of Harpers Ferry National Park along with
the meeting of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia, truly a sight to
behold
