Wild Flowers and Wine Tours:
Celebrate spring with a wildflower hike through
the vineyards of Tarara Winery and along the
Potomac Flood Plain, a plant migration route
near Lucketts, Virginia. John DeMary, naturalist
and wildflower expert, guides you as he
identifies and teaches you to identify early
spring flora and fauna along the riverbank and
trails. The walking tour will take about 2
hours. After the walk enjoy Tarara's award
winning wines in the privacy of the outdoor
pavilion. Linen tablecloths and their Reserve
Wine glass set the stage for comprehensive wine
education. You will sample several premium
wines, then choose your wine of choice from your
samples for a full glass of wine. Cheese and
crackers are also served with the wine. You will
also have a 15 to 20 min. tour of the wine
making cave. A Tarara staff member will walk
with you in the cave to the end of the ramp then
you can continue on your own. The Hike and Wine
Tour is a "Retreat" style event. It is great for
corporate groups, couples, wine connoisseurs,
and anyone who can appreciate the love of
wildflowers and wine. This event is limited to
the Spring season when wildflowers are in bloom.
In May we transition from the lower elevation on
the Potomac Flood Plain to the Thompson Wildlife
area on top of the Blue Ridge. By going up in
lattitude 2,000 ft. we get to do spring all over
again. The elevation allows an exciting floral
diversity like Showy Orchis, Trillium, and Lady
Slippers late into June. Wildflower
identification checklist, information about
historical medicinal use of plants will be
included. Trips will also emphasize local birds
and other wildlife. The level of difficulty is
non strenuous to moderate. Beginners welcome.
The hike will conclude with a wine tasting at
Naked Mountain Vineyard.
These events can be
scheduled anytime for groups of 15 or more. Based on availability. Certain
dates are already scheduled for this event and are listed below, however call
for updates, times and newly scheduled dates
