Intermediate

For Intermediate Runs at least one person in each boat should have prior Class III paddling experience in the craft they are renting. We recommend that at least two crafts rent at a time so if one gets into trouble, the other can offer assistance. Guided trips are available with a certified ACA guide.

Cacapon River: Rt. 50 to 127 bridge

Description: One of our area's most challenging and scenic trips, the Cacapon is best run during April, May, and June. The river travels through a steep canyon, tumbling over Class I, II and III rapids. Birdlife, wildlife, and good fishing abound on this trip through the West Virginia wilderness.
When: Any Day. Departure: Flexible Pick-up: 4-8pm
Where: Cacapon River: Rt. 50 to 127 bridge:
Distance/time 12 miles
Difficulty White water (Class I-III)
Suggested age: 12 yrs. Old and accompanied by parent that is a competent paddler
Shuttle: 5. River and Trail drops boats at private farm at put-in night before, customers take off the next morning on their trip at hour of their choice. Pickup is at Largent from 4-8pm that day depending on River and Trail. Customers need to park their cars at take-out to be able to shuttle people back to the put-in at the end of the trip. River and Trail just picks up the boats.
We need a minimum of 6 canoes to run this shuttle

Novice

Potomac River: Paw Paw to Little Orleans

Description: The upper Potomac offers excellent opportunities for camping in a remote wilderness setting. Primitive hiker-biker campgrounds along the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal offer convenient overnight stops. Paw Paw Tunnel, where the C&O Canal was blasted through a mountain to avoid several bends of the River, is one of the trip's most interesting highlights.
When: Any day but Friday to Saturday
Where: Potomac River: Paw Paw to Little Orleans, Maryland
Distance/time 22 miles 1st day 4-6 hrs./ 2nd day 2-3hrs.
Difficulty Novice: Class I-II: mellow water with riffles and ledges
Suggested age: 7 yrs. Old and must weigh at least 50 lbs
Camping: Stick Pile Hiker Biker(Campsite Provides water, porta john, picnic table, fire pit)
Shuttle: Customers meet our van at Paw Paw Tunnel camping and staging area evening before their paddle. We drop canoes for them to take off the next morning on their trip.
Customers need to park cars at the take-out at Little Orleans in order to shuttle people back to their cars at the end of the trip. River and Trail Outfitters picks up boats only at Little Orleans @ 1pm the second day.

When: Departure anytime 5pm pickup
Where: Cacapon River: Rt. 50 to Largent
Distance/time 30 miles: 1st day 12 miles 4-5hrs./ 2nd day 18 miles 6-7 hrs.
Difficulty Whitewater/Class I-III
Suggested age: 12 yrs. Old and accompanied by parent that is a competent paddler
Camping: Overnight along the river's edge on private property with permission. Must bring water and all supplies.
Shuttle: River and Trail drops off boats at a private farm at the put-in for customers to be able to take off the next morning on their trip. Pickup is at Largent at 5pm the second day. Customers need to park some cars at the take-out to be able to shuttle their people back to the put-in at the end of the trip. River and Trail just picks up boats.

Rental Pricing

  Day/Half-day 2 Day Price includes:
boat rental, life vests, paddles, and one or two way shuttle.
Kayak rentals for whitewater runs also include a helmet.
Canoe $55/boat $90/boat
Single Rec Kayak $38/boat $70/boat
Double Rec Kayak $55/boat $90/boat
White Water Kayak $45/boat $80/boat
Groups Groups of 10 or more receive 10% off when paying collectively
Non-profits should inquire about special pricing
For each additional day beyond two days rental, the cost is $25/boat/day.
An ACA Certified Guide may accompany your trip for a flat rate of $150/day
