Harpers Ferry Outdoor History Tours
Potomac River is only one hour from Washington
DC!
Sometimes, it's difficult to visualize what an
historic event was really like when you are reading about it in some dry old
history book. An event in history often comes alive when you experience the
setting of the event first-hand. In a nutshell, that's what our history trips
are all about. On these River History trips, John Phillips, noted historian and
author and Professor of History, leads small groups out on great all-day guided
excursions, and back into our past! Join River and Trail Outfitters on a
canoeing, rafting, or hiking excursion and enjoy the incredible beauty of the
flora and fauna on remote, scenic stretches of the Potomac River in Maryland,
Virginia, and West Virginia. Several of our all-day guided excursions follow in
the path of George Washington and his navigation of the Potomac, offering a
first-hand comparison of modern conditions on the river with the Potomac that
George Washington knew, based on diary entries describing his travels on the
river in 1785.
Join us on one of the following
excursions in an area rich in revolutionary, colonial, and Civil War history
with Harpers Ferry National Park, Antietam Battlefield, and the C&O Canal
National Park close at hand.
