Kayak Lessons
Kayak class
Our classes are held mainly on the
nearby Potomac River and Shenandoah River near Harpers Ferry on the Maryland,
Virginia, West Virginia border only one hour from Washington DC. Each class is
led by a certified American Canoe Association instructor emphasizing safety.
Classes are primarily held on weekends although private instruction and weekday
lessons are sometimes available. Let our dedicated and enthusiastic instructors
infect you with the paddling bug!

An introduction to the basics of
whitewater and flat-water kayaking with no prior experience required.
Instruction begins with a dry land session covering gear, clothing, equipment,
river safety and hazard detection. The Class I-II run covers paddling strokes,
wet exits, safety on rivers, self rescue, water reading technique, and
analyzing rapids. Participants use stable recreational kayaks unless otherwise
requested.

Designed for individuals who have
completed the beginner class or have prior kayak experience. The intermediate
lesson is on Class I-III whitewater. This provides the opportunity to practice
and learn river rescue techniques, plus an introduction to the Eskimo roll.
Most class time is devoted to practicing skills on white water. Participants
use whitewater sit-on-tops unless otherwise requested

FOR SATURDAY OR SUNDAY
Want the very basics? Try out flat water lessons
taking place on a mellow area of the Shenandoah
River. Two hours in duration, and can use kayaks
for longer. Great for families with young kids.
Cost: $68.09 + tax
Includes: Instructor and equipment
Available: Weekends 10am-12pm
Weekdays, for groups of 4 or more
