Two Day Recreational Kayak Lesson
This lesson is for folks who have a specific
interest in the knowledge and skills of recreational kayaking on calm stretches
of water including lakes, rivers, and ponds. Kayaking will be done on a mostly
mellow stretch of the Shenandoah River and will run five to seven hours each
day with a break for a riverside picnic. Lessons will begin with a dry land
session covering boats and gear, trip planning, how to access paddling groups,
transporting boats and useful paddling resources.

Day One: On-Water session covering:
- Paddling strokes & braces
- River safety & hazards
- Water reading techniques
- Putting the strokes together and perfecting
through exercises

- Moving water paddling techniques including
ferrying
- Putting water-reading techniques into
practice
Adults & Kids: $236.19
Add 5% amusement fee +
$2.00 user fee
Includes: ACA certified instructor, all equipment,
picnic lunch on the river
Available: 2nd Saturday and Sunday of each
month 10am - 5pm --- Weekdays, for groups of 4 or more, time can be
customized
Minimum age: 10 yrs.

Two Day Whitewater Kayak Lesson
This five to seven hour
lesson per each day is for folks who have a specific interest in the knowledge
and skills of beginner white water kayaking on Class I-III rapids. Kayaking
will be done on scenic sections of the Shenandoah or Potomac by Harpers Ferry
and classes will be taught by certified ACA instructors. This whitewater kayak
lesson begins with a dry land session discussing trip planning, water hazards,
resources for paddling, and transporting boats. A riverside picnic lunch is
included.
Day One: On-Water session covering:
- Introduction to the Eskimo roll
- Various strokes & braces
- Putting the strokes together and perfecting through
exercises
- Avoiding hazards
Day Two: On-Water session covering:
- Moving water paddling techniques including
ferrying
- Entering and exiting currents
- S-Turns and other maneuvers
- Practice reading water
- Basic rescue techniques & possibly
surfing

5 Day White Water Kayak
Intensive
Take the plunge into whitewater kayaking with our fantastic
ACA certified instructors! This five day whitewater kayaking intensive at River
& Trail Outfitters is the perfect way to be immersed in this exciting
sport!
Lessons will begin in the comfort of flat water, progressing
to moving water, working our way to making you comfortable and confident on
class II+ - III rapids. There will be many opportunities during the course to
work on learning various strokes, self-rescue, T rescue (assisted rolling) and
the Eskimo Roll. In addition to the time spent on the water paddling, on-land
sessions will cover: trip planning, choosing equipment, boats and gear, and
paddling resources. At the end of the five day kayaking school, you will leave
with a solid foundation of knowledge and skills to move onto more advanced
paddling.

Itinerary
Day 1: Meet and greet with coffee, donuts, and juice.
Get fitted to a boat and head to the water. Flatwater instruction including:
getting comfortable, different strokes, keeping the boat on course, and
maneuvering. Day 2: Move to moving water to work on strokes, catching
eddies, and peel outs. Day 3 -5: Move on to whitewater, continuing to work
on strokes, eddy turns, peel outs and learning to read water, surf and
ferry. Each day will have time spent on self-rescue, river rescues, the
Eskimo Roll and other skills. We will have land based activities and
discussions during lunch and other breaks. |

Price: $625.00. Add 5% amusement fee + $2.00 user fee
Includes: ACA certified instructor(s), all equipment, coffee and
pastries in the morning, and riverside picnic lunches in the afternoon.
Available:Monday-Friday June 20th-24th and July 18th-22nd.
August
Session broken down into two weekends. Fri-Sun August 12th-14th and Sat-Sun
August 20-21st 10am-5pm each day.
Minimum age: 12 yrs.
