Every season River and Trail Outfitters of Knoxville,
Maryland looks to hire people to be river guides, shuttle drivers, and work
in reservations and sales as well as in retail focused on paddling gear and
outdoor equipment. We also sometimes offer opportunities for folks with outdoor
management capabilities, computer knowledge, carpentry, landscaping, and/or

SEASONAL EMPLOYMENT -
MANAGEMENT |
Head of Reservations
Oversees all reservations and payments for outdoor recreation business
as well as supervises front desk check-in for customers. Responsible for
assisting in hiring and training staff, as well as creating and implementing
policies and rules regarding reservations. Good phone voice, excellent people
skills, basic computer systems knowledge, strong organizational skills a must.
This job is good for a person who thrives on being with and assisting people,
doesn't mind working in non-airconditioned environments, and can assist with
lifting and moving boats and other retail as needed. Full-time seasonal,
includes weekends. 5-6 months between April-October. Looking for stability and
someone to be in the position for years to come.
Raft and Tube Guides (click here
for more info & training schedule ) Guides needed to lead customers
down the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers and Antietam Creek near Harpers Ferry.
Class I, II, III whitewater. After training to become licensed by the state of
West Virginia as an official river guide, you will guide customers down the
river, imparting to them local history and stories while watching out for their
safety. Strong people skills, a love for the outdoors, ability to work with all
ages a must. Hiring for soft skills, will train for river skills. SEASONAL
Kayak & Canoe
Instructors ACA-certified guides needed as well as non-certified guides
with kayaking experience to run beginner and intermediate kayaking lessons and
guided sit-on-top and ducky trips on Class I-III water. Strong leadership and
teaching skills necessary as well as an ability to work with all ages.
SEASONAL
Drivers (click here
for more info & training schedule ) CDL licensed drivers as well as
non-CDL drivers needed to drive school buses and vans with trailers. Non-CDL
drivers and some CDL drivers would be responsible for loading and unloading
kayaks and canoes and orienting customers on the river trip they are about to
take. Clean driving record mandatory and must be 21 years of age or older. Good
work ethic, willingness to clean vehicles, and people skills a must! SEASONAL
Customer service and retail shop
workers Act as front line contact with the customer. Responsible for
taking computer reservations, checking customers in, selling boats, paddling
accessories and retail items, doing daily reports, taking payments and more!
Pleasant phone voice, organizational skills, great people skills a must!
SEASONAL
Marketing Intern/Job Commission based.
Potential for uncapped earnings to motivated student. Paid for working actual
marketing events by the hour Students or non-students with business
or outdoor recreation backgrounds to assist in contacting targeted groups for
the purpose of educating and selling them on River & Trail trips. Students
in this internship will have the chance to get creative and work on approved
projects according to their area of interest. Potential projects would be
search engine and pay per click work, brochure production/distribution, setting
up special events, developing visual promotional tools such as in-house
marketing boards, posters, banners for shows, video production for training or
advertising, and much more. In addition, interns may have opportunities to go
to local festivals and events with our traveling climbing wall, providing an
excellent opportunity to meet all sorts of people and talk about our trips.
Team Building Intern Student or non-student with a
background in outdoor recreation that has experience in teambuilding. Would be
an opportunity for the intern to bring together and organize training for a
small staff to perform corporate and other types of teambuilding as well as
lead and assist in team building events including on-land and on-water
activities. Responsibilities would also include bringing together materials for
the games and activities and scheduling staff to run the programs. Hours
working with team-building groups would be paid.
Program Development Internship A person studying
theatre that has an interest in the outdoors and history might be the perfect
fit for this internship. River & Trail runs guided rafting, tubing and
other trips where entertainment of the public is key. We are looking for an
intern with a flair for the theatre to help us develop and polish our
presentations during our river trips. In addition, we need help with
developing, planning, and participating in "theme" trips. No previous outdoor
experience required, training provided for guide certifications. Hours working
as a river guide would be paid.
Guide Eco-Tourism Intern Works to develop a
curriculum to educate our staff and customers about current environmental
issues in our locale. would also work as a river guide on some of the following
trips, depending on certifications and area of interest: rafting, tubing,
canoeing, kayaking, biking, hiking. Hours as a river guide would be paid.
Required Hours & Anticipated Starting/Ending Dates
for Internships: This is flexible. However, the season generally runs
from April-November. Students could work full-time in the summer with 40 hours
or more if desired. There is also a possibility of weekend work in the spring
or fall.
