Wild Flowers
and Wine Tasting Tour Harpers Ferry
What better way to experience
spring than walking in fields of wildflowers?
April-May
15th, we hike through vineyards of Tarara Winery and along the Potomac, a
plant migration route near Lucketts, Virginia. John DeMary, naturalist and
wildflower expert, guides you as he identifies and teaches you to identify
early spring flora and fauna along the riverbank and trails. After the walk,
enjoy Tarara's award winning wines in the
privacy of their stunning outdoor pavilion. Linen tablecloths and their Reserve
Wine glass set the stage for comprehensive wine education. You will sample
several premium wines, then choose your wine of choice from your samples for a
full glass of wine, enjoyed with cheese and crackers. Also included is a brief
tour of the wine making cave.
May 15th- June, we walk through a forest of
wildflowers on the eastern slope of the Blue Ridge Mountains 16 miles west of
Middleburg, VA in the Thompson Wildlife Management Area. The location of our
trail head 2,000 feet above sea level allows for an exciting floral diversity
of Showy Orchis, Trillium, Lady Slippers and other spring wildflowers late into
June. The hike ends in style with a wine tasting at the
Naked Mountain Winery. Seven wines will be tasted including
two Chardonnay's, a Raptor Red, Rose, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and
Chardonnay/Reisling. Naked Mountain wines were served at the White House during
the George H.W. Bush Administration and the Clinton Administration.
Participants will receive a wildflower identification
checklist and information about historical medicinal use of plants. Birds and
other wildlife will also be identified on the tours. The level of difficulty is
non strenuous to moderate, and beginners are welcome.
Dates: April 17th, Saturday and April 25th, Sunday,
