Swift Water Rescue Training for
Scouts, Group Leaders, and avid Boaters

Boaters know things happen fast on moving water!
River & Trail Outfitters is very excited to offer a 2-Day Swift Water
Rescue training program that will give you, the trip leader, the knowledge and
skills you need to make quick decisions and execute safe and effective rescues
on moving water.
River & Trail Outfitter's Swift Water
Rescue training program, taught by a certified American Canoe Association
Swift Water Rescue Instructor, will cover many of the skills needed for a safe
and effective rescue including:
- recognizing and avoiding hazards,
- self rescue
- rescuing other paddlers in need of help
Items of discussion and practice will
include:
- tools and techniques used to deal with strainers
- entrapments and pins
- proper use of throw ropes and rescue vests
Emphasis is placed on personal safety and simple,
commonly used skills. All of the skills taught will be practiced individually
and as a team. This training is a MUST for group leaders planning safe canoe or
kayak trips on moving water! |

River & Trail will provide PFD's, helmets, boats, ropes,
anchors and pulleys. However, if you have your own equipment that you are
comfortable with, we encourage you to bring it with you. Participants
interested in attending this training program should be physically fit enough
for two active days in and out of the water and have good swimming ability.
Life Vests will be worn at all times when in or near water. Good paddling
skills are helpful but not necessary to participate in this training. Course
participants must be at least 14 years of age. Class will be held both days
from 9am to 5pm.
What to bring

Clothing that you can wear comfortably in the water and
is suitable for the weather and water temperature and a change of
clothes.

Secure water shoes. (Teva's. Keens, or
Booties with a rubber sole)
- Lunch, snacks, and plenty of water for both days.
- 10 to 20 feet of 1 inch tubular webbing and a locking
carabiner. (Available at our shop)
2012 Dates: April 14th -15th, June 9th -10th and August 11th - 12th
Price: $175.00 for public and $125.00 for scouts and
other non profits*.
*Add 5% amusement fee & $2 user fee per person.
