What to wear on the river for rafting or tubing in Harpers Ferry

No Cotton!

How to dress for river trips – rafting& Tubing

When participating on activities on the river, you will want to make sure to follow our dress recommendations.

Summer & Warm Days

  1. Quick dry shorts (no cotton)
  2. Quick dry t-shirt, regular t-shirt, or bathing suit
  3. Sneakers or sport sandals that will stay on your feet. No flip flops!
  4. Hat with brim or visor.
  5. Sunglasses, be sure to have a strap to keep them on your head!

Cooler Weather Days

  1. Quick dry shorts (no cotton) or synthetic pants or leggings. Consider midweight long underwear under shorts if temps are below 60. No cotton shorts or pants!
  2. Quick dry t-shirt, and wool or fleece long sleeved top  (that you don’t mind getting wet!)
  3. Waterproof jacket or shell for an extra layer. 
  4. Sneakers or sport sandals that will stay on your feet. No flip flops!
  5. Wool or fleece socks to wear with your sneakers or sports sandals. No cotton!
  6. Hat with brim or visor.
  7. Sunglasses, be sure to have a strap to keep them on your head!

What to Bring Rafting or Tubing

  1. Dry change of clothes (leave in your car!)
  2. Towel (you will get wet on the river!)
  3. Suntan lotion
  4. Glasses strap – for sunglasses and especially for regular prescription glasses.  Glasses do not float!
  5. Water bottle – at least 32 ounces
  6. Snacks
  7. On Mellow Tubing trips, you can upgrade to add on a “cooler tube” and bring your mini cooler with snacks and drinks on your float.

  • Items you might forget like sunscreen, river shoes
  • Quality outdoor gear such as kayaks, canoes, and paddling gear

HOW TO DRESS FOR AIRSOFT

  • Jeans, or sweatpants, or BDU pants 
  • Long sleeved shirt or sweatshirt, or some type of jacket
  • Closed toed shoes are a must!
  • Gloves and a hat/beanie are recommended
  • We have about 20 BDUs (battle dress uniforms) available for those who may need them.

How to dress for biking, hiking, or ziplining

Summer & Warm Days

  • Sneakers or biking shoes
  • Shorts and t-shirt
  • Baseball style hat or visor
  • For Biking, watch for loose shoelaces and wide bottom pants. 
  • Shoes must be closed toe for zipline.

Cooler Weather Days

  • Sneakers or biking shoes
  • Wool or thermal socks
  • Fleece shirts or sweaters
  • Windbreakers
  • Gloves
  • Biking pants
  • If really cold, optional wicking base layers
  • Shoes must be closed toe for zipline.

What to Bring Biking or Hiking

  • Sunglasses
  • Chapstick and sunscreen
  • Water bottle
  • Snacks (granola bar, etc.),
  • Phone
  • Backpack or hip pack to carry items in

What to Bring Ziplining

  • Nothing extra! 
  • Don’t bring phones while ziplining; they fall out of pockets and break!
