This guided 4.5 mile kayaking trip begins behind Bird Sanctuary Island, home to an amazing number of Blue Herons and wild ducks. Reaching beyond the island, the rising thermals from the river’s uplands support soaring Red-tail Hawks, American Bald Eagles, and other birds of prey. As you watch the silent sky, paddlers will hear the sound of falling water as you approach three Class II+ rapids and waves.
After the gradual drop of Knoxville falls, the Potomac settles into an easy flow and your attention turns again to the woodlands in search of birds, wildlife, and the fish that live below. No paddling experience is necessary for this guided trip, although we recommend paddlers be in good physical condition.
In early May, join us for our unique Raft & Brew adventure. Experience entry level Class I-III rafting on the Shenandoah & Potomac Rivers at Harpers Ferry before heading to the brewery 17 minutes away!
After the paddle, enjoy the taste of craft beer at the new Smoketown Brewery only minutes away in Brunswick, MD. You’ll not only enjoy the flight of tasty beer but also the upbeat environment in the tasting room or the outside patio. Enjoy the tour behind the glass wall and speak to the brewery team about hand-crafted beer. To top the day off, enjoy the savory taste of the locals’ favorite eatery. Kings Pizza will provide hearty appetizers of garlic knots and gourmet white pizza.
