Wild Flowers and Wine Tasting Hike
- Dates: Apr- mid Jun for Groups
- Duration: 3.5-4 hours
- Price: $59
- Includes: Guide, shuttle, wine tasting, wildflower identification list
- Location: Leesburg or Middleburg, VA
In April we walk through vineyards of Tarara Winery and along the Potomac, a plant migration route near Lucketts, Virginia. Our naturalist and wildflower expert guides you as he identifies and teaches you to identify early spring flora and fauna on some of Virginia’s most beautiful river front land. The walk ends at the winery with a tasting of local select wines.
In May and June we walk through a forest of wildflowers on the eastern slope of the Blue Ridge Mountains 16 miles west of Middleburg, VA in the Thompson Wildlife Management Area. The location of our trail head 2,000 feet above sea level allows for an exciting floral diversity of Showy Orchis, Trillium, Lady Slippers and other spring wildflowers late into June. The tour concludes at Naked Mountain for a wine tasting featuring their signature Chardonnay, Make-Me-Blush Rose, and a variety of other reds. Naked Mountain wines were served at the White House during the George H.W. Bush & Clinton administration.
Participants will receive a wildflower identification checklist and information about historical medicinal use of plants. Birds and other wildlife will also be identified on the tours. The level of difficulty is non strenuous to moderate, and beginners are welcome.
