Sometimes, it’s difficult to visualize what an historic event was really like when you are reading about it in some dry old history book. An event in history often comes alive when you experience the setting of the event first-hand. In a nutshell, that’s what our history trips are all about. Join River and Trail Outfitters on a rafting, tubing, kayaking/canoeing or hiking excursion and enjoy the incredible beauty of the flora and fauna on remote, scenic stretches of the Potomac or Shenandoah River or Antietam Creek in Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. Several of our half day and full day guided excursions follow in the path of George Washington and his navigation of the Potomac, as well as near landmarks key to the Civil War.
Paddlers, bikers, and hikers will travel through or in view of 4 National Parks or Trails: Harpers Ferry National Park, Antietam Battlefield, the C&O Canal National Park, and the Appalachian Trail.
The following trips qualify for historical tours. Please let us know if your group is particularly interested in the historical aspect of the trip.
